Not without trees

Natural carbon sinks such as peatlands, forests and marine coastal ecosystems remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in carbon compounds – a valuable climate service that we cannot manage without. At the same time, they face multiple threats, including from hot summers and intensive agriculture. In the latest issue of eco@work, we take a detailed look at natural carbon sinks, their potentialities, and the factors that put them at risk. And in our interview, we talk to Tom Kirschey: he heads the Centre of Competence for Nature-based Climate Action (KNK) and explains which measures are planned for this new body.
