Christof Timpe will become the Oeko-Institut’s new Chief Executive Officer on 1 January 2024

On 1 January 2024, Christof Timpe will become the Oeko-Institut’s new Chief Executive Officer. He takes over from Jan Peter Schemmel, who is leaving the institute at the end of November 2023. Christof Timpe has more than 30 years of experience as a researcher at the Oeko-Institut, working on energy policy and climate change mitigation strategies and heading its Energy and Climate Division in Freiburg from 1996 to 2023.

Creating positive visions for sustainable transformation

In his new role, Christof Timpe will continue his long-standing commitment to sustainable transformation. With a background in the citizens’ movement for energy transition, he has worked at the national policy level, designing solutions for German and European energy policy, and has also developed action plans for energy system transformation by local authorities, including the recent climate action plans for Munich and Freiburg. He attaches particular importance to dialogue with local stakeholders as a basis for collaboration on positive visions for the future.

I am convinced that we will be in a better position to manage the various transitions towards more climate change mitigation, biodiversity and resource conservation if we can inspire people to embrace a positive vision and the roadmap that leads towards it.
